Enjoy a free day of skiing or riding at Sunday River. Join Maine Handicapped Skiing, a year round adaptive recreational program for their annual SKI-A-THON on March 29, 2008. In 2007 Maine Handicapped Skiing (MHS) raised over $348,000 in pledges at this one day event. Register your team today, Ski-a-Thon participants help keep MHS free of charge to the 250 students involved in the program.
Maine Handicapped Skiing began operation during the winter of 1982 with one staff member and eight students. In 1986 MHS hosted the first Ski-a-Thon and raised $38,000 in pledges. Today the program is year round welcoming individuals with physical disabilities to enjoy Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Cycling, Golf, and Paddling. Even with the growth in numbers and programs, Maine Handicapped Skiing remains the largest FREE adaptive recreation program in the east, due in a large part to the proceeds raised at the Ski-A-Thon. Call MHS to register your team or join an existing team. Also check out our website to learn more and see pictures or this great event. (www.skimhs.org)
