News And Events: Veterans/No Boundaries Winter Program 2008
Veterans/No Boundaries is a specially designed recreation program that provides recreational activities to veterans and active service military with physical disabilities who require adaptive equipment and techniques to participate in sports. This year the program will be held from January 31st to February 4th, 2008.
Maine Handicapped Skiing, Maine’s largest adaptive recreation program for children and adults with physical disabilities, created Veterans/No Boundaries in 2005 to better serve veterans and active duty personnel with physical disabilities. These men and women face many difficult challenges after a physical disability has occurred, including an often arduous rehabilitation process and coping with family, work and financial changes.
The Veterans/No Boundaries program is there for veterans or active service personnel when they are ready to participate in sports activities, either for the first time or by returning to sports they enjoyed prior to their disability.
Maine Handicapped Skiing also believes it is very important to support the service person’s spouse or significant other, whose relationship has been strained emotionally and financially due to major upheavals in their lifestyle. Veterans/No Boundaries provides a welcoming environment where a spouse or significant other can learn a new sport, relax, socialize or just have fun.
